Investigators were searching for two hit-and-run drivers after a bicyclist was fatally struck early Saturday morning in the Whittier Narrows area, officials said.
Bicyclist Heriberto Ruiz, 47, was struck by two hit-and-run drivers while traveling southbound on Rosemead Boulevard, approaching the 60 Freeway around 2:50 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol officials.
A vehicle also traveling south overtook Ruiz and collided with his bicycle, causing fatal injuries, witnesses told the CHP.
The driver fled the scene in an unknown direction before a second vehicle approached Ruiz.
The second driver realized something was in front of him and moved into another lane, stopping next to Ruiz when a third driver struck the bicyclist before colliding with the second driver’s vehicle.
The driver of the third vehicle fled the area in a southernly direction.
The second hit-and-run driver’s vehicle was described as a late-2000 model, white minivan, CHP stated in a news release. No description of the first vehicle was available.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the East Los Angeles CHP office at 323-980-4600.
