A felony suspect was taken into custody by deputies and a K-9 unit on Thursday evening after a foot pursuit ended with a physical confrontation in the backyard of a Lake Elsinore home, authorities said.
Isaac Solis, 26, was inside a vehicle near North Langstaff Street and West Sumner Avenue (map) about 8 p.m. when he was initially recognized by two deputies, who knew he was wanted for two outstanding felony warrants, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The warrants stemmed from investigations of alleged domestic violence and robbery, said Deputy Armando Munoz.
Before being contacted by the deputies, Solis exited the vehicle and ran through the backyards of several residences, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Authorities set up a perimeter in the area and found the suspect in a makeshift shed behind a home in the 300 block of North Lindsay Street (map), about two blocks from where he was first spotted, according to a news release. He allegedly refused orders to come out of the shed, and a police dog was deployed.
News video shows the dog entering the shed as deputies stand outside, shouting orders with their guns drawn.
Solis resisted attempts to place him into handcuffs, the Sheriff’s Department said, and deputies gained control of his hands and took him into custody “after a brief struggle.”
In the video, Solis drops to the ground after exiting the shed. The dog appears to pounce on him before being pulled off by a handler. The suspect is then set upon by three deputies, two of whom are seen throwing several punches during the encounter.
Solis, a Lake Elsinore resident, sustained minor injuries in the incident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the statement said. He was later transferred to the Southwest Detention Center for booked in connection with the warrants and on suspicion of resisting arrest and violation of probation.
