A fatal shooting investigation was underway outside of an elementary school as children were preparing for class Monday morning in Cudahy.

The incident was reported in the 5000 block of Live Oak Street shortly before 12:30 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

The victim, who was described only as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Video from the scene showed a black canopy covering the victim’s body just hours before students were expected to arrive for class at Ellen Ochoa Learning Center on Monday.

The Los Angeles Unified School District elementary school teaches kindergarten through eighth-grade students.

No motive for the shooting has been determined, and police have not released a description of a possible suspect or suspects.

Homicide investigators were also called to fatal shootings in the nearby cities of Bell and Huntington Park on Monday morning.
