Our Testing Lab’s favorite has never used lead in its manufacturing

If you love Stanley’s TikTok-viral Quencher tumblers, you may have heard some of the recent hubbub about lead being used in their manufacturing process — and how, if the tumblers are damaged, you could be exposed to lead while drinking from them.

Stanley says its Quencher tumblers are still safe to use, and that the pellet containing lead that’s used to seal the vacuum insulation in the tumblers is “industry standard.”

“Rest assured that no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes into contact with the consumer nor the contents of the product,” the company says. “In the rare occurrence the base cap of a product comes off due to ordinary use and exposes this seal, it is eligible for our Lifetime Warranty.”

But if you want to be sure you’re never exposed to any lead while sipping on your favorite beverages, you could just choose a completely lead-free tumbler. When we tested insulated tumblers in the BestReviews Testing Lab, our favorite wasn’t even the Stanley Quencher — it was from Owala, a competitor that doesn’t use lead in its manufacturing process.

And there are more tumblers from Owala, including the brand new FreeSip Twist, that could be your new favorite lead-free water bottle.

This was our favorite insulated tumbler — better than the Stanley Quencher, according to our testers. Its versatile lid lets you either sip or swig, with or without a straw. And the double-walled insulation kept its promise to keep beverages at the same temperature — either hot or cold — for up to 12 hours. We found the design nearly leak-free, with only a few drops escaping when the tumbler was on its side. Plus, the size is very comparable to a Stanley Quencher.

The FreeSip Twist is a brand new offering from Owala, only available for pre-order for now. We were able to test it, though, and liked what we saw. It has a cool interior straw that sets in place so you don’t have to tilt the bottle to drink. The size of the bottle makes it easy to grasp and there’s a handy rope handle at the top for easy carrying.

The FreeSip is designed to let you choose how you drink — you can sip from a straw or use the wider opening to swig your beverages. Plus, it’s splashproof, leakproof and comes in tons of colors.

If you want a smaller water bottle that can fit in a purse or bag, this 24-ounce version is for you. It comes with plenty of the features we love from other Owala water bottles, like a removable straw and leakproof lid.

The SmoothSip is designed for coffee, tea and other hot drinks. It’s splashproof to help keep you safe from burns and scalds while drinking on the go. And it’ll keep your hot drinks at temperature for hours.
