A recently listed home in Palm Desert is both the picture of mid-century modern design and a mechanical marvel.

The home, located at 73345 Juniper St., is featured in the town’s art and architecture guide and was the brainchild of local architect George Ritter, thus earning it the moniker: The Ritter House.

The 1974 home has much of the expected aesthetic of the time, sharp clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows and carpet—lots of carpet.

It also has quite possibly the most unique and mechanically advanced dining table feature in Southern California.

According to the listing, the dining room table sits on a circular platform which is actually a mechanical lift that propels guests several feet up and into an open air “glass turret” that offers unencumbered 360-degree views of the Coachella Valley.

The 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, listed by luxury real estate broker Debbie McGee, was featured on the popular real estate gawking/admiring page Zillow Gone Wild as part of its semi-regular “You Never Know What’s Going On Inside A Home” series.

Comments included, “The dining room really elevates the whole interior,” and “I’m picturing a very intense game of musical chairs.”

If the elevated dining experience doesn’t sell you, here are some of the home’s other features.

“A unique custom-made stainless steel fireplace in the great room will provide warmth on those chilly desert nights. The kitchen is a galley type with teak cabinetry and warm Italian tile. The master bedroom is off the rear pool and patio area and the master bath has a voluminous spa tub,” the listing reads.

It also has ample outdoor space with an outdoor covered corridor for “alfresco dining,” if you simply just can’t enjoy a meal in an average indoor setting.

The home is currently listed at $1.2 million and is being sold as-is.
