Orange County Animal Care workers were trying to capture a goose Tuesday that was recently seen in Anaheim Hills with an arrow through its neck.

The workers were hoping to catch the bird — which was spotted living near the 91 Freeway and Imperial Highway (map) — so it could be taken to a veterinarian who specializes in the care of exotic and wildlife animals, Dr. Jennifer Hawkins of O.C. Animal Care said.

“We are very concerned about the goose and want to ensure it receives proper care,” Hawkins said.

However, despite the arrow, the goose appeared be in good health and has managed to elude the care workers.

“The arrow is not grossly impairing the animal,” Hawkins said. “It is quite strong and active and, as such, has been a challenge for our officers to capture.”

As of Tuesday morning, workers had failed in four attempts to catch the bird, Hawkins said.

O.C. Animal Care workers believed the wounded bird was an Egyptian goose.

If it is caught, an animal cruelty investigation was expected to begin.
