Police in Oxnard were searching Friday for an intruder who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy in his bed after entering a home through an unlocked back door.

The assault occurred around 4:20 a.m. at a home in the 1300 Block of Bluebell Street, according to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department.

The boy was sleeping when the man entered his room and attacked him, the release stated.

The child was able to alert his parents who confronted the man and ordered him to leave the home, according to police.

Officers discovered that several window screens in the back of the home had been cut in an apparently unsuccessful attempt to enter, the release stated.

The intruder was described as a Hispanic man with a dark complexion, in his 20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build.

Anyone with information was urged to call the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-3921, or Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 805-222-8477 and www.venturacountycrimestoppers.org/contactus.
