The advisory is scheduled for late Sunday evening and into Monday morning. Temperatures are expected drop to between 33 and 35 degrees for more than two hours overnight in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Los Angeles and Ventura valleys, and along the Central Coast, the weather service said.

A cold air mass will result in sub-freezing temperatures in the Antelope Valley, according to forecasters.

The frigid conditions may result in hypothermia for pets that are not properly sheltered, as well as damage to unprotected crops, officials said, adding that sensitive outdoor plants could die if left uncovered.
