A stretch of Ortega Highway between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore was temporarily shut down Christmas afternoon after a car crashed into a pole, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision occurred shortly before 2:40 p.m., according to an Orange County CHP dispatcher.

One person in the vehicle was bleeding from their head, according to CHP’s incident log. It was not known if occupant was taken to a hospital for treatment. Their condition was also not immediately known.

Wires were down from the north to south power poles, the log stated. Edison crews were being called in to check if the wires were live.

While the roadway was closed, Orange County drivers were temporarily taken off the road at Antonio Parkway, while motorists coming from Lake Elsinore were being diverted at the Ortega Candy Store, the dispatcher said.

A SigAlert was canceled at 4:22 p.m. and both sides of the highway were reopened, according to the log.
