One firefighter was injured and multiple classrooms were damaged after a three-alarm fire ripped through a portion of Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
At around 1:15 p.m., fire crews responded to the school, which is located at 9401 Westminster Ave. (map), and found two classrooms on fire, according to Jeff Spargur with the Garden Grove Fire Department.
Firefighters mounted and aggressive attack against the flames and were able to put the blaze out within an hour, Spargur said.
The fire was contained to the initial two classrooms, but six other classrooms sustained smoke and water damage, according to Spargur.
One firefighter injured his hands and had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
School was scheduled to be in session Monday, with some classes relocated as a result of the fire, according to Amy Stevens, a spokeswoman with the Garden Grove Unified School District.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but arson investigators have deemed it “suspicious.”
