A man was fatally shot by police officers responding to a report of a woman screaming at an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

Officers arrived at the building in the 600 block of Wall Street around 6:50 p.m., according to Christopher No with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

When officers entered the building, they could heard a woman’s screams coming from one of the apartment units, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said.

“Officers then forced entry and saw a male stabbing a female,” Aguilar said.

That was when the man was shot, according to Aguilar.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

The woman was also transported to a hospital in serious condition.

No officers were injured.
