A woman was arrested following a multi-county pursuit on Tuesday night.
The suspect was initially pulled over in San Juan Capistrano for a welfare check before speeding off on the 5 Freeway and continuing into L.A. County, according to California Highway Patrol.
The compact SUV, which was hit with a spike strip earlier, refused to stop and continued driving on the highway as the tires began deteriorating.
Authorities said the driver was speaking on the phone throughout the pursuit.
Both front tires eventually peeled off as the suspect continued traveling on rims. At one point, a patrol vehicle successfully pit-maneuvered the suspect, bringing the chase to an end.
Initially refusing the exit her vehicle, pepper balls were deployed as officers approached the car carefully. Eventually, the woman was taken into custody without further incident.
