Deputies responded about 4:30 a.m. to a call of a fight in the area of Ivy and Edna streets (map), just east of the Rio Hondo River, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A man armed with a handgun ran form the deputies and may have hidden in the back yard of a home, the LASD said. A perimeter was set up and a search was conducted.

“Armed gang suspect in custody. Area safe,” the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau announced on Twitter shortly before 9 a.m. The man’s name was not immediately released.

It was unclear if a weapon was recovered.
