A man remained in custody Saturday after allegedly dealing heroin at the Simi Valley Public Library (map), authorities said.

Bradley Bates, a homeless man from Huntington Beach, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of possession of narcotics, the Simi Valley Police Department said in a news release. A narcotics-related felony warrant had previously been issued for his arrest.

Bates was carrying more than 6 grams of heroin and more than $1,500 in cash when he was taken into custody inside the library, the release said.

Police detectives saw the suspect posing as a library patron while selling the drug to customers inside the building and in the parking lot, according to the release.

Bates was booked into the Ventura County Jail, where he was being held without bail, according to sheriff’s online records. He is scheduled to appear in county Superior Court on Monday afternoon.
