A car wash was held Friday to raise funds for the family of 9-year-old Ximena Meza, who was shot and killed while playing in front of her apartment in Anaheim on Wednesday.

Police believe Meza was the unintended victim of a gang shooting in the 2300 block of West Greenacre Avenue (map) when a man emerged from a car and fired a gun towards some other men, but fatally struck Meza instead.

Meza’s parents went to the car wash on Friday to thank the volunteers for donating their time and money during this time of tragedy for the family.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody for their support and God bless you,” Ximena Meza’s father, William Meza said.

The car wash was being held on the southwest corner of West Lincoln Avenue and South Brookhurst Street (map) and was expected to continue until about 3 p.m.

A $50,000 reward has been offered by the Anaheim Police Department for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed Ximena Meza. An additional $5,000 reward was also being offered by the Anaheim Police Association.
