As much as $100,000 worth of new iPhone 6’s and iPads were stolen early Tuesday during a burglary at a wireless store in Garden Grove, according to the business owner.
The heist occurred at Oztec Wireless, which is located in the 10700 block of Westminster Avenue, shortly after 2 a.m., a Garden Grove Police Department news release stated.
Surveillance video from the store showed three people wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves breaking into the business before they smashed glass cases and grabbed an unknown number of pricey electronics and other merchandise.
Most of the stolen items were Apple iPhones and iPads, according to store owner Vu Bui, who estimated the value of the electronics at about $100,000.
Police stated that the burglars got away with more than $95,000 in cellphones, laptop computers and other electronic devices.
Bui said he was first alerted to the theft by security company ADT.
“I was sleeping, ADT called me and they told me that someone was in my store. And I said, ‘No, I’m at home. No one is in there,’” he told KTLA.
Bui added that he first saw the surveillance video on his phone.
“I turn on my phone and see they’re in my store, and call the police,” he said.
When Bui arrived at the store, he said he found a trail of electronics and other merchandise leading around the back of the business, over a fence and into the neighborhood.
It was not immediately clear whether there was a getaway vehicle.
The wireless store has only been open for about three months, and Bui called the theft a major setback.
