A search was underway for a driver after two people allegedly threw stolen items out of vehicle early Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers were called out around 3:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a theft from a vehicle in the 7300 block of Tujunga Ave., LAPD Sgt. Season Nunez said.

When they arrived, officers found two people throwing items out of their windows while driving.

The vehicle was traveling too quickly for police to try to stop them, so an LAPD helicopter was called in to help, according to Nunez.

The driver of the car eventually stopped and ran away, but police managed to detain the passenger, Nunez said.

Investigators combed the area of Saticoy Street and Beck Avenue until around 5:15 a.m. as they searched for the driver and any evidence.

No one was injured in the incident.
