Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Jurupa Valley station responded at 6:33 p.m. Saturday to numerous 911 calls of shots fired on the southbound 15 Freeway near the El Cerrito Road off-ramp (map), according to a news release.

Several callers reported rival motorcycle gangs, the Mongols and the Hells Angels, were shooting at each other, a California Highway Patrol sergeant told the L.A. Times.

Two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene, the release said. They were transported by ambulance to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead.

A third man was treated for similar injuries and released from the hospital.

None of the victims’ names were immediately released.

Investigators from the Jurupa Valley station and Central Homicide Unit were called to the scene of the shooting and took over the investigation.

The freeway closure ended about 10 a.m. Sunday, more than 15 hours after it began, according to Caltrans.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s Investigator Dean at 951-955-2777.
