Long Beach Port’s Breakwater Has at Least 3 Breaches

A recent hurricane caused high tides that damaged the breakwater that protects the port of Long Beach, according to authorities.

At least five near breaches and three breaches into the seawall that protects one of the largest ports in the nation were reported by the Army Corps of Engineers Thursday.

The breaches were caused by Hurricane Marie, which led to 15-foot waves and a four-day high surf advisory in August.

Authorities predicted further damage may be caused from Hurricane Norbert, which was expected to strike off Mexico’s coast during the weekend.
