A fatal multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 5 Freeway in Castaic Sunday afternoon prompted a SigAlert and the temporary closure of two lanes, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

One female victim was killed and seven people were injured in the collision, which occurred just north of Lake Hughes Road (map) shortly before 2 p.m., the spokesperson said.

Four vehicles were involved in the incident, including a red pickup truck that overturned, according to the Highway Patrol’s online incident report.

Los Angeles County firefighters and coroner’s officials responded to the scene.

The No. 3 and 4 lanes on the northbound side of the freeway were reopened and the SigAlert was cancelled as of 7 p.m., the CHP said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
