An investigation was underway in Long Beach after a driver struck and injured a mother and her five children on Thursday night, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at East Anaheim Street and Gundry Court (map), Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said.

The mother and her children, who were between the ages of 4 and 12, all sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

Officers were at the scene conducting a DUI investigation, Sgt. Megan Zabel with the Long Beach Police Department said. She added that it was not immediately clear whether alcohol played a role in the collision.

Authorities have not released the names of the driver or the six pedestrians.

No further information was available.
