The crash occurred near the Avalon Boulevard off-ramp just after 2 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Bishop.

It was unclear if the big rig was parked, but the crash caused the Toyota Camry to hit a guardrail before driving down an embankment.

A man and woman in the car died at the scene and two others were transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

The condition of the big rig driver was not immediately known.

The Avalon Boulevard exit remained closed until around 6 a.m. due to an investigation into the collision.
