Jacob Esobedo was arrested Saturday morning at a residence in the 300 block of North 12th Street (map), where officers had responded to a “report of a wanted subject” about 12:19 a.m.

Escobedo had been wanted for a post-release-offender-supervision violation after resisting arrest and endangering a child, the Santa Paula Police Department said in a statement.

When the officers arrived at the location, several people exited the home and an unattached garage. They were detained and later released.

Escobedo was inside the residence and said he would not come out, according to officials.

Police requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol and Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. Personnel from those agencies arrived at the scene, as did the Police Department’s special-response team.

A 2 ½ -hour barricade situation ensued, during which authorities negotiated with the suspect. He then exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Escobedo was charged with possession of a controlled substance, convicted felon in possession of ammunition, obstructing a police officer, and the felony warrant, according to the Sheriff’s Department’s inmate-information website. He was being held at the Ventura County Main Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Monday.
