Two people were zip-tied and a third was shot during a home invasion in Temple City Sunday morning. Detectives say the brazen robbery happened while a baby was inside the home.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. at a home on the 9700 block of Longden Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Though initial reports indicated all three adults and the baby were home when the robbers entered the house, investigators later said the thieves may have been lying in wait for the man who was shot.

“They zip-tied the two ladies, left them upstairs where they were in the bedroom and waited for him to come home,” said Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The man in his 30s was coming home from a restaurant when he was dropped off by a friend, then confronted by the mask-clad robbers, who demanded property from him and shot him once in the arm, investigators said.

“He has another injury on his leg,” Lewis added. “All that we know was taken was $2,000 in cash.”

The two robbers then fled down the driveway and east on Longden Avenue, the man’s friend told investigators.

At least one person was at the hospital for injuries suffered during the robbery, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, although they were not taken by ambulance.

The infant was uninjured and is believed to have slept through the incident.

The crime is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information should contact the Temple City Sheriff’s Station at 626-285-7171.
