Divers have located the body of a 9-year-old boy who drowned in Lake Elsinore on Sunday, authorities said.

The child was swimming with family near the 32000 block of Riverside Drive at 10:35 a.m. when he reportedly struggled to stay afloat, according to Sgt. Edward Soto of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Department said several children were swimming near the docks on Launch Pointe Beach when two of them began to struggle to stay afloat.

A bystander brought one of the children to shore, but the other went underwater and never resurfaced, despite the efforts of witnesses who tried to help.

His body was located by a dive team at about 2:37 p.m. and transferred to the Riverside County coroner, Soto said.
