A series of three freeway shootings left at least one person dead and three people injured Tuesday, officials said.

The fatal shooting occurred first on the 710 Freeway in the South Gate area.

The California Highway Patrol got a call about shots fired on the northbound side of the 710 Freeway, south of Florence Avenue, around 12:25 a.m., authorities said.

It appears that a driver in a black sedan fired an unknown number of shots at another vehicle traveling in another lane, CHP officials said, citing preliminary findings.

The victim then pulled over in the center median and called 911 as the shooter fled the scene and exited on Florence Avenue, authorities said.

Deputies responded and found the driver being treated by paramedics in the center median.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have not identified the victim, who was described only as being a man in his 30s.

Video from the scene showed the freeway closed off Tuesday morning as officers surrounded a sedan that was stopped with its doors swung open.

The windshield appeared cracked on the driver’s side, video showed.

CHP did not have a more detailed description of the shooter, and no further details were immediately available.

The second shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on the 91 Freeway in Carson, when a black sedan pulled up alongside a Kia and opened fire, wounding the female passenger of the Kia, the CHP said in a release.

The woman, who is believed to be 37 years old, is in serious but stable condition, according to Officer Gonzales of the CHP, and there is no connection to the earlier freeway shooting.

The third shooting was again on the 710 Freeway, this time in Paramount at about 5:45 p.m., according to Supervisors Sims and Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The victims, who were in a gray Mazda sedan, were driving north when an SUV pulled up on the passenger’s side of the Mazda and someone “fired an unknown number of shots,” the CHP said in a release.

Two people, a man and a child, were hurt by shattered glass from the attack, though they were not struck by gunfire, the CHP stated. They were taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Officials said this incident is also unconnected to the other two freeway shootings.
