One student was arrested after another student was stabbed during a fight at Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo on Friday, prompting a shelter-in-place order.

The school was placed on lockdown around 2:30 p.m., but the order was lifted just before 3:40 p.m., according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to the school regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.

The department confirmed that one student was stabbed during the fight.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.

A male student was detained and a knife was recovered.

“This incident appears to have been an isolated event between students,” OCSD said.

Students told KTLA at the scene that there were two fights: the first between two girls and the second between two boys. At some point, one of the boys took out a knife and stabbed the other, witnesses said.

Video circulating among students showed a man who appeared to be a staff member jumped in to help and got control of the knife. That’s when one boy ran off, and the boy who had been stabbed was taken to the nurse’s office.

The investigation is ongoing.
