A pursuit suspect who police say attempted to ram them with a car was fatally shot in Ontario overnight.

The incident occurred Monday shortly before midnight when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Ontario Police Department Cpl. Emily Hernandez said.

The driver decided to flee the scene, initiating a pursuit, Hernandez said.

The chase came to an end after a short chase, but police say the driver was not ready to surrender.

“At some point during the pursuit, the suspect rammed three police vehicles, at which point an officer-involved shooting did occur,” Hernandez said.

A deputy later indicated the shooting occurred at the intersection of San Antonio Avenue and 4th Street.

The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting was not injured, Hernandez said. She was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.

No officers were injured in the incident.
