Though California state officials announced this week that all residents aged 65 and older can get the COVID-19 vaccine, not all counties were immediately ready to expand access to seniors as supplies remain scarce.
As of Jan. 19, here’s who can get the vaccine in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, according to local health departments.
Los Angeles County
On Jan. 19, Los Angeles County officials announced residents 65 and older can sign up to get the COVID-19 vaccine, after previously saying there were not enough doses to vaccinate those in the vulnerable age group.
The announcement came as five super sites opened in the county with the goal to accommodate thousands of residents a day.
The rollout will occur as the county continues to work on vaccinating health care workers as well as residents and staff at skilled nursing and long-term care facilities across the county.

Officials said there are more than 75 pharmacies that have registered to provide vaccinations, and county officials will continue to add more sites as more vaccines are available.
Vaccine allocations will also be going to large health care providers like Kaiser Permanente and Providence Health and Services. Residents can call their health care provider, who may direct them to a preferred location for the vaccine.
Here are the health care workers being offered the vaccine in the county:
Orange County
Orange County is vaccinating residents 65 and older, including at a COVID-19 vaccination “super” site that opened at the Disneyland Resort Wednesday.
This is in addition to health care workers in these settings:
- Acute care, psychiatric and correctional facility hospitals
- Skilled nursing facilities and similar settings
- Paramedics and EMTs
- Dialysis centers
- Intermediate care facilities for persons who need non-continuous nursing supervision and supportive care
- Home health care and in-home supportive services
- Community health workers
- Public health field staff
- Primary Care clinics, including Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Centers, correctional facility clinics and urgent care clinics
- Specialty clinics
- Laboratory workers
- Dental and other oral health clinics
- Pharmacy staff

Riverside County
Riverside County also started vaccinating all residents aged 65 and older, setting up clinics to distribute the doses.
The county has also made the vaccines available to essential workers like educators, dentists, mortuary staff, food and agriculture workers, pharmacy staff and those in emergency services — in addition to frontline health care workers and older residents.

Residents were told to sign up for an appointment at ruhealth.org, and seniors who need help making an appointment can call 800-510-2020 or 2-1-1.
San Bernardino County
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on Thursday announced that all residents aged 65 and older are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 — but explained the supplies remain scarce, so appointments will be limited.

Ventura County
Like L.A. County, Ventura County is still only vaccinating health care workers and those in long-term care facilities.
“Those 65 and older cannot be vaccinated until the next phase,” the county health department tweeted Wednesday. “The County is advocating for more vaccines.”
