Former Miss USA Tara Conner joined us in studio to talk about her sobriety and how she is raising awareness of addiction in support of the National Youth Recovery Foundation.
Recognizing that the longest part of the addiction cycle is recovery, the National Youth Recovery Foundation is bridging the gap between traditional 12-step programs and a generation connected through social media to develop a whole new model for recovery.
Tara Conner was crowned Miss USA in 2006. Soon thereafter, her addiction to drugs and alcohol came to light. Donald Trump told her she could keep her crown on the condition she enter a treatment center. She kept her crown and recently celebrated six years of sobriety. She hopes to raise awareness that addiction is a disease and that many people go on to lead a healthy, productive life in recovery. She especially wants educators, families and professionals to know that sobriety at an early age is achievable and that it greatly enhances life’s possibilities. Tara is a singer/songwriter and model. She can also be found on Twitter at @TaraConner.
