The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Harbor Patrol participated in an investigation after a woman’s body was found in Newport Beach on Monday.

Officers responded about 8:45 a.m. to a call reporting a woman lying face down under the Bay Bridge, near the intersection of East Coast Highway and Bayside Drive, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

The woman, identified as Nancy Renee Hammour, was dead when the officers arrived, police said.

“We don’t know if she was pushed or if she fell off the bridge or how she got there,” witness Fredericka Ong said.

On the bridge, the stretch of Pacific Coast Highway was cordoned off for much of the day as investigators searched the area for evidence.

Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department dive team were seen in the water near the bridge Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information was asked to call Newport Beach police’s hotline at (800) 550-NBPD or Detective Ryan Peters at (949) 644-3779.
