A man was being questioned by homicide investigators after two people were shot dead and a third was wounded at a residence in Compton on Friday, authorities said.

The deadly gunfire took place just before 6 p.m. in a neighborhood in the 600 block of West Palmer Street, just west of Matthisen Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in an updated news release.

Deputies were initially responding to a “rescue” call when, while en route, a gunshot victim was reported at the same location.

Upon arriving at the scene they found three people had been shot, and a man was running from the home naked, sheriff’s officials said.

The man was detained as a person of interest in the case, authorities said.

Paramedics pronounced two of the victims, a man and a teenage girl, dead at the scene. Both had been shot multiple times.

Neighbors who have known the family for years said the deceased are a father and his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

Investigators had previously described the deceased teen as a woman.

The third victim, a woman, was found outside the home with a gunshot wound in her upper torso. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was in unknown condition, officials said.

According to neighbors, the woman is the deceased man’s wife.

Investigators would not provide information on the relationship between the victims and the man detained, or a possible motive.

However, neighbors said the person of interest is the deceased man’s son, who has lived in the home off and on. The teen fatally shot was his stepsister, they said.

Detectives recovered a gun from the property.

The investigation remained in its early stages, officials said, and no further details were available.
