Investigators said the man shot in the abdomen aboard a Metro bus in South Los Angeles was involved in an argument with the gunman prior to the shooting and was not an innocent bystander as previously reported by police.

A Monday afternoon shooting aboard a Metro bus in South Los Angeles left one man injured, authorities said.

Gunfire erupted on the Metro 207 bus, which connects Hawthorne to Los Feliz, as it was passing near 60th Street and Western Avenue shortly after 12 p.m., said Ramon Montenegro, a spokesman for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau.

A man was struck in the back by a gunshot and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Montenegro said.

It’s unclear what led to the mid-day shooting. LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told City News Service that the man was caught in the crossfire of a dispute between rival gangs.
