Authorities Saturday asked for the public’s help in finding a teenage boy wanted for questioning in connection with the fatal early morning stabbing of his father at the family’s home in Pico Rivera.
Sergio Anthony Gutierrez, 17, is considered a person of interest in the case, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. No further description of the teen was immediately available.
Gutierrez was believed to be driving a silver 2000 Infiniti with California license plate 4MAB667.
Few details were available about the incident, which occurred about 1:35 a.m. in the 3700 block of Oaklawn Lane (map), according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to a call reporting a robbery at the house, where they found the 50-year-old victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The man was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
Officials had initially said the stabbing occurred during a home invasion.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene, in a gated community just south of the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area.
Two residents of the house were detained for questioning, and at least one of them was a relative of the victim, said LASD Lt. Holly Francisco. They were being interviewed by investigators at the sheriff’s Pico Rivera station.
No arrests have been made, authorities said.
Leo Clisostomo, a longtime resident of the neighborhood, said the two electronic gates leading into the community had remained open for almost a month due to malfunction.
A technician was seen working on one of the gates Saturday morning.
The investigation is ongoing.
KTLA’s Ashley Soley-Cerro contributed to this report.
