MILWAUKEE (NEXSTAR) – The VP pick is in, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be running alongside former president Donald Trump on the Republican ticket.
At the Republican convention, the name J.D. Vance gets a pretty good reception.
“I’m so excited,” said Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.).
Lawmakers and delegates alike say they’re focused on getting Donald Trump back to the White House and they say Senator Vance is going to help do that.
“He’ll be somebody to really help build the tent,” said Sen. Marsha Blackburn.
Fellow senators say Vance’s personal story from poverty to power will resonate with Americans and they predict he will amplify Republican voter energy in November.
Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno says VP nominee Vance could help him too.
He’s running to unseat Ohio Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown and it’s a tight race.
So he hopes Vance’s presence on the ticket brings out Republican voters in their home state.
“J.D. Vance represents a new direction for the American people. A new generation of leaders. We have the excitement. They have misery,” said Moreno.
Many say who knows, in 2028 Republicans may be nominating Vance again, that time for president.
