An adorable sloth that was trying to cross a road in the Ecuadorian province of Los Rios recently had to be rescued by officers, according to the Transit Commission of Ecuador.

The officers stopped to help the small mammal after noticing it “struggling to cross” the roadway, BuzzFeed reported, citing a transit commission spokesperson.

Veterinarians checked out the sloth and determined he was in good condition, according to a post on the commission’s Facebook page. He was subsequently returned to his habitat.

The commission posted several photos of the officer and the sloth to its Facebook page on Friday. The post subsequently went viral, and has been liked 44,000 times and shared by about 14,000 users as of early Monday afternoon.
