Satellite Photo Shows Nile River Colored Blood Red

The European Space Agency’s latest image of the Nile River might have a few doomsday zealots heading for the hills.

It appears the Egyptian river is a deep, blood red, drawing parallels to the first biblical plague of Egypt as told in the Book of Exodus.

Not to worry; the image was taken by ESA’s recently launched Sentinel-3A satellite, which views areas of vegetation in infrared from the satellite’s radiometer.

Sentinel-3A will systematically measure Earth’s oceans, land, ice, and atmosphere.
