A preliminary-magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck southern Peru on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter of the temblor, which hit at 4:21 p.m. Pacific Time, was located at a depth of 37 miles, the Geological Survey said. It was centered 26 miles east-northeast of Tambo and 293 miles southeast of Lima, Peru’s largest city.
There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. No tsunami warning was issued as a result of the earthquake.
The quake occurred about 13 hours after a magnitude-6.0 temblor shook Northern California, near Napa.
