Potential New Lead in Disappearance of Indiana University Student

Lauren Spierer is seen in a missing persons flier obtained by KTLA sister station WXIN.

The Indianapolis office of the FBI is helping in the search for Lauren Spierer, a college student who went missing nearly five years ago.

The FBI and the Bloomington Police Department confirmed Thursday that the federal agency was assisting at a location in Morgan County, about 30 miles north of the college town.

CNN affiliates WISH and WRTV reported that the FBI and local authorities searched a home in Martinsville.

The home belonged to the family of Justin Wagers, a sex offender who is behind bars after more than half a dozen arrests in the last 15 years, according to KTLA sister station WXIN.

WRTV cameras captured authorities and K-9 units working near a house and another wooden building on the property. A pickup truck was also seen being towed away.

FBI Special Agent Wendy Osborne said they were following up on information they received regarding the disappearance of the Indiana University student, who went missing in June 2011.

Spierer was last seen leaving a bar with a male student in the morning of June 3.

Surveillance video showed her and the male student walking toward his building around 3 a.m., though it does not show her leaving. But a neighbor reported seeing her leave the male student’s building about 4:30 a.m

Her keys were found in a nearby alley.
