Deputy Kevin Williams was on duty when he received a call that he needed to pick up his sick child from school, CNN reported.

When he got home, Williams fed the Belgian Shepherd, but then apparently forgot to take the dog out of the cruiser, according to the cable news channel.

Kela was found dead inside the vehicle the next morning.

Following the dog’s death, Williams was reassigned to courthouse bailiff.

No charges would be brought against Williams by the District Attorney’s office because there was no criminal intent, the Duplin County Sheriff said, according to CNN.
