Police ID 20-year-old woman found stabbed to death in Upland; 2 in custody

A 20-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in Upland on Thursday and investigators have detained two suspects, police said.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Adriana Way for a call about suspicious activity at 7:02 a.m. and found the woman lying in the street and bleeding from stab wounds, according to the Upland Police Department.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police later identified the victim as Monique Briseno of Montclair.

A witness told investigators they saw a man leaving the scene, and several others called authorities to report a suspicious man seen in backyards and knocking on doors, according to police.

Officers located Angel Ancira, a 24-year-old Colton resident, and subsequently booked him on suspicion of murder. Ancira is currently on probation for grand theft auto, police said.

Authorities also detained a woman after residents saw her walking along Mountain Avenue and called police to report her as suspicious. She had not been booked into jail as of Thursday evening and officers said they were still investigating her involvement.

Police said neither the suspects nor the victim are residents of the neighborhood where the body was found.

“It appears as though they came from somewhere else,” Sgt. Anthony Kabayan said. “The assault happened inside of the vehicle … and the female either came out or was pushed out of the car.”

Investigators believe the car struck a curb after the assault occurred and could no longer be driven, prompting the attacker to flee in a residential neighborhood.

As Sky5 flew above the scene around 10:30 a.m., the woman’s body was still lying in the street beside a white sedan parked at the end of a cul-de-sac.

No other details have been released by police as the investigation continues.
