A 24-year-old woman died of an apparent drug or alcohol overdose during the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, officials said Friday.

Kimchi Truong, of Oakland, was taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital (map) after sustaining an unknown injury, according to a news release from Riverside County Coroner Stanley Sniff.

Truong was later transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center (map), where she died on Thursday, according to the coroner’s report.

Sgt. Curtis James of the sheriff’s department told Palm Springs NBC affiliate KMIR-TV that the victim was treated about 2 a.m. Sunday at a festival music tent and then later became unresponsive at a taxi pick-up area.

The coroner reported that Truong had collapsed at the festival.

Her death was attributed to a suspected overdose of illicit drugs or alcohol.

Although the coroner’s office initially said Truong was 21, a later report indicated she was 24 years old.

“We are saddened to learn the individual has died. We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident,” concert promoter Goldenvoice said in a statement to KMIR-TV. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”
