Violent rollover crash sends deputy’s car tumbling through Santa Clarita intersection

Dashcam video captured the moment a violent crash sent a deputy’s vehicle barreling through a busy intersection in Santa Clarita on Wednesday.

The crash happened near Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road at around 12:19 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The deputy was heading northbound on Bouquet Canyon Road when a gold-colored Lexus heading westbound crashed into the passenger side of his cruiser.

The violent impact caused the deputy’s car to roll over several times through the busy intersection before colliding with a silver SUV that was stopped at a light in the opposite direction.

The crash also sent several large pieces of auto debris into the air, narrowly missing nearby vehicles.

Video shows several bystanders immediately exiting their cars and running over to check on the deputy after the crash.

“I could hear the sirens and I pulled over,” recalled witness Audry Carias. “The police car is coming towards me and another car just speeds up and hits it. [The patrol car] just flips and hits two cars in front of me. Thankfully, I didn’t get hit.”

The deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and was later released Wednesday afternoon. He was responding to reports of a burglary when the crash happened, officials confirmed.

The driver of the gold Lexus, identified only as an elderly man, was not injured and was later picked up from the scene by family members. The driver of the silver SUV was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The deputy’s identity was not released. No charges have been filed and the events leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
