A man was arrested and charged after he allegedly shot and killed his sister in Ventura County early Friday morning.
The suspect was identified as Brennan Post, 33, by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Post is accused of murdering his sister, Cassidy Snow, 25, authorities said.
On Feb. 22, Post was officially charged with the murder in the shooting death of a family member, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
Deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at a Newbury Park home on the 100 block of Sandra Court around 1:12 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they found Snow fatally shot inside the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The suspect’s stepfather initially called the police after gunshots were heard.
Authorities say Post was a U.S. combat veteran who may have been dealing with mental health issues at the time.
He was taken into custody without further struggle. A firearm was later discovered in the family’s home, which authorities believe was used in the deadly shooting.
The events that sparked the fatal incident remain unclear at this time.
Neighbors told KTLA they were shocked to learn of the shooting as the siblings appeared to be close.
Post was arrested on murder charges and is currently being held without bail. An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for March 22 at the Ventura County Superior Court.
The case remains under investigation.
