Covina police arrested two men on Sunday in connection with an attempted robbery and shooting that left one man dead in the Faith Community Church parking lot, authorities said.

Adam Hernandez, 21, and Christopher Avila, 20, both of Covina, were arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery, the Covina Police Department stated in a news release.

The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. on the 800 block of West San Bernardino Road. The victim, 20-year-old Issac Urena, and his friend were meeting Hernandez and Avila to sell them jewelry after arranging the meet up on Offerup, a popular online marketplace app.

Hernandez and Avila allegedly attempted to rob Urena and shot him while he was sitting in his friend’s car, according to police.

After the shooting, the friend drove Urena to the parking lot of Faith Community Church and waited for first responders, police said.

Urena was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hernandez and Avila are each being held on $2 million bail pending their initial court appearances. Their arraignments are scheduled for Tuesday at Citrus Superior Court.
