Thieves target more L.A. County 7-Eleven stores amid string of robberies across Southern California

Multiple 7-Elevens in Los Angeles County fell victim to armed robberies overnight as thieves continued to target stores across the region.

According to police, the most recent string of robberies took place in the San Gabriel Valley. Authorities were dispatched to a 7-Eleven on the corner of Rosemead Boulevard and Duarte Road in East San Gabriel around midnight on Monday on reports of three armed men wearing ski masks storming the store.

Two of the suspects were armed and pointed their weapons at the clerk, while the third suspect ransacked the cash register. The thieves were able to get away with approximately $300, law enforcement officials said.

According to the East San Gabriel store’s manager, the suspect who was pointing the gun at the clerk’s head was ordered by another suspect to shoot him.

The clerk was not injured but was understandably shaken, the manager said.

Around two hours earlier, another 7-Eleven on Duarte Road in Monrovia was also hit by three armed, masked men, authorities confirmed. How much cash was taken and whether any merchandise was stolen is not known.

Several nearby residents who frequent the East San Gabriel 7-Eleven told KTLA 5’s Gene Kang on Monday morning that they had seen “sketchy” individuals in the area in the past.

“I see stuff going on that looks suspicious and I usually tell [the store employees] ‘Hey, watch out,’” a man named Jerry, who worked for a local police department before retiring to work as a security guard, told Kang. “There are people sitting in cars…especially during the nighttime…and after midnight, we see [what I think are] transients walking around.”

“I’m ashamed of what happened here,” he added.

Late Monday morning, police confirmed to KTLA that they were investigating another 7-Eleven robbery early Sunday morning, this time on East Huntington Drive in the City of Duarte.

Only one suspect was seen in that incident and they fled on foot, preliminary information indicates.

Investigations into all three incidents remain ongoing, and no official suspect descriptions have been released.

Whether the three robberies are connected is still to be determined.

The East San Gabriel, Monrovia and Duarte robberies come less than a month after three separate L.A. County 7-Eleven locations were targeted by thieves in the span of an hour. That same night, three other 7-Eleven stores in Long Beach were also robbed, police said.

In addition, in January, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy walked in on a group of four suspects allegedly attempting to rob a 7-Eleven in Carson. Whether that group was involved in an earlier string of 7-Eleven robberies in the area was not immediately established.
