A 28-year-old long-term substitute teacher at Highland High School in Palmdale was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a student enrolled in a special needs program, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
Aaron Alvidrez was taken into custody on Tuesday, one day after detectives with the department’s Special Victims Bureau began looking into a child molestation allegation between a teacher and student at the school, authorities said.
School officials contacted the Sheriff’s Department after the 17-year-old victim reported that he had been sexually assaulted multiple times in the month of September.
The alleged assaults took place inside a classroom and in the teacher’s vehicle, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office has filed seven felony counts against Alvidrez. The charges included “multiple counts of Committing Sodomy on a Minor, Oral Copulation on a Minor, and Meeting a Minor for the Purpose of Committing a Lewd Act,” the release stated.
The Lancaster resident was in the custody of the Sheriff’s Department. He was being held on $325,000 bail.
