Suspicious Suitcase Found Near L.A. Mayor’s Home Contained Clothing

A suspicious suitcase found near the official residence of L.A.’s Mayor Eric Garcetti on Monday evening contained only clothing, police said.

The suitcase was spotted just before 5 p.m. on the corner of Sixth Street and Irving Boulevard in a Windsor Square neighborhood located near Getty House, according to Officer Jack Richter with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Office.

A number of neighborhood homes including the mayor’s residence were evacuated as a precaution, according to LAPD Detective Aguilar.

Several streets in the area were also shut down due to the investigation, according to a tweet from the LAPD.

The bomb squad arrived at the scene around 6:45 p.m., aerial video from the scene showed.

The scene was cleared after police determined the suitcase did not pose a threat.
