Traffic was moving in both directions on a partially reopened Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood Sunday, following the repair of a water main that had ruptured Friday and flooded several streets in the area.

One westbound lane and two eastbound lanes had been open since Saturday night, when Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews refilled an excavated portion of the street with slurry.

At its peak about 10,000 gallons per minute gushed from the broken main in the 8400 block of Sunset (map), which was reported around 2:30 p.m. Friday. About 100 gallons per minute were spewing onto the road the following morning before the DWP shut down the pipeline.

The slurry would take about 48 hours to dry after being poured, officials said. Final road repairs are scheduled to begin Monday.
