A 9-mile stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near the Ventura County line was expected to remain closed to traffic for another three to four weeks, officials said Thursday.

The recent rains caused more than a dozen mud, rock and debris slides on PCH between Yerba Buena and Las Posas roads, according to an alert from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.  In some areas, the highway was covered in 4 to 6 feet of mud.

The mud came primarily from the May 2013 Springs Fire burn area, and more slides were expected from additional storms along the coast, the alert stated.

During the closure, no motorists or cyclists would be permitted access.

A contractor has been hired to remove the mud and debris, to re-position K-rails that were displaced by the slides and repair highway shoulders and rip rap that were damaged or washed out, the alert stated.
